The American Federation of Musicians (AFM Union Local 99) and Sound Advice, LLC present a music law workshop with Portland entertainment attorney, Peter Vaughan Shaver, on Copyrights and Contracts for Musicians.

This two-hour, interactive workshop will provide practical information on crucial legal topics related to the music business, with a focus on copyrights and entertainment industry contracts. Anyone involved with the music business should attend: bands, songwriters, managers, producers, engineers, promoters, and record label owners. 

Copyright topics will include the basic legal concepts that every musician should know, including, sound recording versus song compositions copyrights, registering music with the Copyright Office, and the ins and outs of performing rights organizations such as ASCAP and BMI. Copyright information and other valuable handouts will be provided.

The discussion of music business contracts will focus on recording and publishing agreement basics, licensing for films, television and video games, management and distribution deals, band and side musician agreements, production deals, band trademarks and more.
